Advanced Care for Women

Resources

Welcome to our resources page. Our goal is to provide links to reliable, unbiased patient education sites. We provide a brief discussion of each site. We encourage your feedback. If you know of another a link that may be helpful to others please let us know.

UpToDate ( http://www.uptodate.com/patients/index.html )

This is a personal favorite. It is part of a highly respected physician database that we as physicians must subscribe to each year; however, the patient education section is free to the public. This site is updated several times each year with new information filtered from over two hundred medical journals.

While it has excellent sections on pregnancy and women's health care, it covers nearly all other topics in health care. Simply link to the site then place your cursor on the left hand side over topics to see listing of all general categories. The pregnancy and women's health care issues are at the end of the list.

The only drawback of the articles is that they may be more detail than some want and it may be easy to get lost in the details at times.

ACOG ( http://www.acog.org/publications//patient_education/patientpage.cfm )

This is the patient education section of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. It has all patient education pamphlets that you may see in your doctor's office. The pamphlets are good summaries of most topics in pregnancy and women's health care however the search function is fairly sensitive to correct wording and may at times be a little difficult to use. The detail is much less than in the UpToDate site.

NIH ( http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/healthtopics.html )

This is an outstanding site built and maintained by the National Institute of Health. It has what seems like infinite levels of detail on all health issues including women's health care. For those interested in how your body works and your anatomy the site contains beautiful tutorials. Enjoy.

Mayo Clinic (http://www.mayoclinic.com )

This is another user friendly site that covers all topics in health care. It is easy to use with concise easy to understand articles.
